The second CPS field trip (Fotoforay) of 2025 was a visit to the Wildlife & Wetlands Trust reserve at Llanelli.
Six members of the club made the trip (Tracey Onions, Bea von der Haar, Stephen Lander, Graham Porritt, Nigel Goode and Kevin Doyle) on a rather chilly Friday, February 7th.
As with all WWT reserves there was plenty to see and photograph, from the captive species to the wild birds. A sizeable flock of Black-tailed Godwits could be seen from the British Steel hide along with Redshank, Greenshank, Wigeon and Shelduck. The highlight from this hide were nine Spoonbills sifting on the lake to the right of the hide. From the Peter Scott hide we saw Lapwings, Teal, Shovellers, Tufted Duck and Gadwall. The highlight from this hide was a group of around 50, wonderfully camouflaged, Snipe.
We made our way back through the reserve to the cafe at one o’clock for lunch (and defrost) after which our group dispersed for the day. And an excellent day it was!
