The CPS Photographer of the Year (POTY) title is awarded to the member who has amassed the greatest number of points in all internal print and digital competitions throughout the year.
Two additional awards are provided, CPS Digital POTY and CPS Print POTY for those with the highest total score in those categories. There are also 3 one-off competitions for Print of The Year, DPI of The Year and Slide of The Year. Finally we hold two panel competitions, the Diamond Jubilee Cup and the Wilf Hathaway Trophy, the first themed and the other open.

Points are accumulated in internal competition as follows :
- 1st place – 10 points
- 2nd place – 7 points
- 3rd place – 5 points
- Highly Commended – 4 points
- Commended – 3 points
- Images also get 1 entry point
