Our final field trip of 2025 was a visit to WWT Llanelli where sightings of Marsh and Hen Harriers had been reported along with flocks of Redwing feeding on winter berries.
Four of us made the trip – Sue Anslow, Nigel Goode, Graham Porritt and Kevin Doyle – on a pleasant sunny day. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the species we’d hoped for. From the Harriers we hoped to see only a single female Marsh Harrier put in an appearance . We did see plenty of Black-tailed Godwits, Lapwings, Widgeon, Shovellers, Teal, a single Heron and a gathering of at least 50 Snipe. We did have the bonus of a Spotted Redshank and another, as yet unidentified, wader.
Despite our disappointment with the Harriers we still enjoyed an excellent day out in good company and will undoubtedly visit Llanelli again in the future.
