An impromptu club trip to WWT Slimbridge on November 8th 2024.
Four club members (Kevin Morgan, Stephen Lander, Nigel Goode, and Kevin Doyle) made the trip to Slimbridge on a grey and cold November day. Slimbridge is always a great place to visit and is only about an hour away from where our members live.
We arrived early and started by visiting the captive pools to photograph the likes of Eider Duck, Goldeneye, Bufflehead and Swan Geese. Next stop were the hides along path leading to the Kingfisher hide. Although we didn’t see any Kingfishers we did see plenty of Teal, Shovellers and a Little Grebe. Towards mid-day we headed back to the welcoming warmth of the cafe for lunch.
After lunch we visited the hides along the estuary side of the reserve which yielded plenty more Teal and Shovellers along with Shelduck, Black-tailed Godwit, Pintail, Widgeon and a Song Thrush feeding on winter berries. Before heading for home we spent time photographing the Common Cranes and the Flamingoes. A thoroughly enjoyable day providing an excellent opportunity for wildlife photography in excellent company.
